I’ve always gravitated towards exercise. Whether it’s free weights, cardio, or a combination of both — I enjoy pushing my body to see what it’s capable of.
At one point, however, I was struggling to find the motivation to work out alone. My wife was doing CrossFit, so she kept encouraging me to try it. I was reluctant, mostly because I’d heard negative comments about it. But thanks to my wife’s persistence, I caved in and gave it a try. It was one of the toughest things I’d ever done! CrossFit humbled me, for sure. With no training in proper technique, I realized I was doing exercises incorrectly. Once my movements were corrected, I was stunned at how quickly I improved — and came to love this crazy sport!
CrossFit challenged me physically — but even more importantly, it challenged me mentally. I realized the mental challenge is what I need the most to keep my mind and body as one. The physical gains are a bonus, but the mental challenge is truly fulfilling for me.
A year and a half into CrossFit, I decided to pursue coaching. I became a Certified Level 1 Kid’s CrossFit coach. I’m a big goofball at heart, so coaching kids was a no-brainer. I wanted to be a part of the CFV Kid’s Program so I could motivate children to enjoy exercise and work on their health — while also teaching proper movements. I never planned on coaching adults, but I was happy to discover that adult classes are just as much fun as the kids!
